Bo Peabody's Future for E-commerce: Small Shops

from the untapped-markets dept

Bo Peabody, of Tripod, is banking on the fact that everyone wants to be a small business owner. He might be right. I’m not convinced yet. I think plenty of people do, but don’t necessarily understand everything that goes into it. I also think plenty of people have no desire to be a small business owner themselves (and perhaps prefer to get rich day trading). Finally, as for his idea that people don’t want to hang out at Amazon.com and are looking for better communities where they can buy stuff… I’m not convinced. Buying is a trusting relationship, especially online, and Amazon.com has built up that trust. Small businesses can build up that trust, but until they get there, I might be afraid to buy.
