CDMA Could Hit 200M Subs This Year
The CDMA development group reports that the CDMA subscriber base grew by 33% over the last year. Most of this growth is happening in the US and certain Asian markets. If this rate continues CDMA could hit 200M subscribers by the end of this year, which would be almost double the number of worldwide subscribers at the end of 2001 and nearly 20% of the global cellular market. While we don’t see CDMA replacing GSM, the stronger CDMA becomes, the more likely it is we’ll see some real results from GSM/CDMA interoperability projects.
