Dmitry Free?

from the good-for-him dept

The U.S. has agreed to free Dmitry Sklyarov in exchange for his testimony against his company ElcomSoft. This is good, in that it means Dmitry won’t be going to jail for no good reason (even if he has been kept away from his family for months for no good reason – that’s better than many years and fines on top of that). To their credit, ElcomSoft (who he will now testify against) welcomed the deal, saying that Dmitry should be free to go home, and they can defend themselves. The only problem with all of this is that the U.S. government probably still doesn’t realize how stupid the decision to prosecute Dmitry in the first place was.
