Limited time only! Absolutely no doubt this is a scare item that is worth it because it’s scare, it will never come around again…
until next weekend, or perhaps the weekend after – or whenever they need some extra cash for the friday lunch fund.
Re: Re:
So go ahead and make your own. You threatened to do so, and nobody’s going to stop you.
Honestly, I love the idea of this t-shirt, but not the implementation.
I mean, it’s pretty basic, there’s no graphic design, as such – and what in the nine hells is that font supposed to be? It looks like the old Robocop logo with severe anorexia.
If it was one of the Eurostile variants, or something else with a bit of media presence or geek chic, I might be a bit more inclined to reach for my credit card… 😛
Re: Re:
Funny, Eurostile was one of the fonts I toyed with when building it – but I decided against it since, to my mind, it’s passed from “chic” into “vastly overused”. I’m sorry you don’t like the font (“Furore”, if you’re curious), but I think you’re in the minority.
The goal was always a simple design, and it’s been extremely popular so far – but if there’s more interest in a fancier version, we may create a 2.0 at some point.
Re: Re: Re:
Oh, I’d say Eurostile is well beyond “vastly overused”: at this point, it’s practically ubiquitous, the Arial of almost anything and everything vaguely technical or sci-fi-ish.
It’s becoming annoying how popular it is, but it is the current default because it works well. I look forward to something replacing it, or at least competing well, but I don’t think Furore has the right stuff, not on the current showing.
It’s not that I don’t like Furore, as such, it just seems to me like it tries too hard and misses – on it’s own, I think it’s much too anaemic for big-dick logos (or slogans, as here), but much too funky and angular for anything much smaller than that.
It might sit a lot better as part of a larger design, rather than carrying all the visual weight on it’s own shoulders, so to speak.
Just my own opinion, obviously – I can’t pretend to have the slightest idea how anyone else feels about it.
Thanks for your reply, Leigh Beadon. If there’s ever a better, sexier Nerd Harder 2.0, I’m definitely up for throwing some money at it. 🙂
ReLaunch
Finally! It relaunched at a time when I actually have money!
Artificial Scarcity
Hmm.. Something that’s always talked about here. Something that can be reproduced ad infinitum, yet limited to suggest scarcity.
“only available until the end of the weekend”
You guys are worse than Disney and their vault.

Physical goods are naturally scarce. It’s digital goods that are made artificially scarce.
Doing a print run of a t-shirt IS absolutely a scarcity situation. So we use teespring which will only do a print run if there’s enough demand for it.

Really?
Re: Re: Artificial Scarcity
I was half kidding.
Artificial scarcity can be claimed about the “vault” and the DVDs are a physical good. Scarcity because they only make so many copies of a movie each time they “open” the vault, they could make more, but they won’t. This isn’t natural scarcity, it’s self created scarcity.
Apples / Oranges as far as scale, intent etc. I was just pokin’ fun.
“I’ll wait till payday….. “
(eldest) “Daddy I NEED one too!”
(payday comes)
“Shirt last available 3 days ago”
“NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo”
Re: Re:
(grumbles and places an advanced reservation on the next batch)
Please?
Woo, Order has processed anyhow, and our shirts will be printed!
I don’t know Whether this was some behind the scenes machination by Techdirt, or the manufacturer saw one more order and rolled it into the main group, either way…
Thank you!
