GoHip Takes Over

from the dangerous-downloads dept

Here’s a fun one. Apparently folks who downloaded GoHip.com’s application discovered that it takes over your computer. It uses ActiveX to make your home page GoHip’s, and it adds a .sig file to every email you send out advertising GoHip. Basically, it’s involuntary viral marketing. The article doesn’t say, but I assume this only happens on MS products such as Outlook and IE. What’s more amusing is Wired’s attempt to track down whoever is behind GoHip. The second half of the article talks about the circles they run in trying to get in touch with the elusive guy behind GoHip (and, apparently, a number of other questionable sites).
