Gag Echelon Day
from the mess-with-spies-who-may-or-may-not-be-there dept
This one is amusing. For any of you who have read about Echelon, the apparent “global electronic spying network” that tracks all sorts of communications, and which has been talked about to death by anyone paranoid (and which was more or less admitted to by the Australians earlier this year), some folks are organizing a campaign to try to gag Echelon by having everyone append a list of “flag” words to all their emails. I’m not sure how many folks will do that, or how much of an effect it will have.

Re: Echelon,
my best friend told me about it some time ago (1998?), and ever since we’ve made it a habit to jot down 3-5 words that would cause us to be flagged by Ech-e-sketch. Adding a few key words to your .sig file would be a nice, little brother way of discouraging Big Brother from spying on your e-mails.
Cheers,
Chuck
