Ghana's Digital Dilemma

from the a-different-viewpoint dept

Interesting timing on a set of contrasting articles. Last week we posted an article called Africa’s Digital Dream, talking about a budding technology revolution in Ghana. MIT’s Tech Review is running a different article called Ghana’s Digital Dilemma, which goes into much more detail about the technology world in Ghana. It’s not as nice a picture as the first article suggests. While there certainly appears to be some technology work happening there, it’s still quite a struggle. And, for many people in Ghana, having even limited access to the internet makes it clear to them just how far they have to go. One internet cafe owner claims that most of the people who get online in his shop are looking for a way to get out of Ghana.
