GoAmerica Getting Out of WISP Business

GoAmerica is selling its WISP customers to Earthlink. The company will still resell CDPD, Motient and Cingular services, but all the billing and other ISP task will be handled by Earthlink. GoAmerica is going to refocus its efforts on it’s mobile application platform, Go.Web. This is the second time Earthlink has bought out a WISP, the first such deal was their purchase of OmniSky. Earthlink has slowly built up quite a range of wireless services, letting others do most of the costly customer acquisition. But will this strategy work in the long run? I doubt it, especially as carriers such as SprintPCS and T-Mobile roll out more complete wireless data services and devices.
