Handel's Messiah Too Explicit For Young Ears According To Apple
from the I-was-forever-damaged dept
Another problem with top down music download systems is that you’re relying on someone to tell you how certain music is categorized – rather than letting the listeners indicate to each other what the music is like. Case in point: the Associated Press is having fun with this new story saying that Handel’s Messiah has been labeled as having “explicit” lyrics on Apple’s iTunes, and thus may not be suitable for children – which puts it alongside such other classical chart toppers as Eminem’s songs. Now, clearly, this is the result of a mixup by someone at Apple. However, with a decentralized system, issues like this don’t come up – or are solved quickly. The users get to add the metadata around how a song is classified, and misclassifications get sorted out automatically.
