Hook 'Em Young
from the creating-a-market-for-ebooks dept
So ebooks haven’t done that well. That’s not stopping the people who make them, though. The latest strategy is to target kids who are the most technically savvy, and who will hopefully get used to ebooks early – so that in the future the market will be much bigger. Seems like an interesting strategy, though most kids don’t have that much in the way of disposable income – meaning they still have to convince their parents to buy the ebooks for them. Plus, they’re pricing some of the ebooks at higher prices than regular books – which isn’t likely to win them much business.

furthermore
Apple dominated the education market for years (before Dell’s well publicized trumping of Apple) and it didn’t seem to result in anywhere close to the same percentage of adult users using apple computers.

Hmmm… that almighty dollar seems to control an awful lot of things, doesn’t it?
Parents do control the purse strings for the kids EXCEPT when it is mandatory by the school system.
I’m not convinced government will mandate use of ebooks or similar technology anytime soon.
