iDell

from the hey-is-that-an-iMac-running-Windows? dept

Dell is expected to start sales of their new WebPCs today. The WebPC is targeted at consumers and will have iMac like features such as USB (no ISA or PCI slots), CD-ROM drives (no floppies) and snap on color panels for the keyboard and case. Prices start at $999 and go upto $2399 for 500 MHz machine with a flat panel display. Now, we can all get that blueberry colored PC we’ve all been waiting for.

Todd says:

boring

After spending last week playing with a Gateway Profile and salivating over the NEC Z1, I can honestly say that the WebPC is absurdly boring. Sony and Toshiba put out minimalistic box PCs last year and the rounded monitor, though iMac-ish, is dated. The one-piece PC makes a statement that these Dells don’t: The PC is an appliance. Most can’t be upgraded substantially. So what — neither can your refrigerator.
